Before, After and Then Some

Okay folks! I am a ball of emotions lately (all will be well in the end though) and when I am really upset about things, I clean. Yesterday I cleaned out my dresser drawers and reorganized everything. The day before that I cleaned off (most) of my desk. And today I cleaned my favorite place in my tiny room. Can you guess what it is?! MY ART DESK!! Haha. It was a mess. Here's what it looked like before I cleaned it (the floor was my biggest problem...and the fact that I could not get to my stuff. So here's the before and after!

Look at that mess! Sketchbooks, paintings, boxes, trash allll over my floor. I could not get to the top of my desk and now you see why! Lol.
Now here is my AFTER shot.
*squeals of happiness* Look at how gorgeous. I just finished making a series of 3 videos for my YouTube account. When I get them all loaded (because apparently ONE video is going to take an hour to upload.) I will make a blog post with them in it.
I made three videos: My art space, storage and then the third is inside of my desk. :)

Last night, I got home from the hospital (No. I am not the one that is in the hospital. Lol. I am fine as far as I know) and I was few minutes late to Marion Smith's UStream show. But I signed in to the chat and at the end she was doing a giveaway and the admin, Tonya, chose ME. And today on Marion's blog, she put up that I was the winner of the ENTIRE LINE from Vintage Trinkets. I am so happy, grateful and excited all at the same time. I never win things like that (I've entered a lot) and I'm SO thrilled to have won! When it gets here, I'll do a video of me opening it. Haha!

I hope you all have an amazing day. But in the meantime, I'm going to work on a page that I only need to take pictures of so the video doesn't have to load. :)

Washi Tape/Ribbon holder Semi-Tutorial

Ladies! I'm so so excited to finally share something with you that it worth it! I showed you a few of my canvases yesterday. But today! I took a video tutorial by Jennibellie and did my own little interpretation on it.  The first picture in the tutorial is a just a photo album from Goodwill (mine was 99 cents!) and covered it. That is the only thing you don't see in this video. I'll do another video of it when it is completely done. :)

Let's get to the pictures and the video!

As you can see, I took The photo album and simply covered it with matching paper. I took black cardstock and put it on there first and then took that adorable white patterned paper and put it on the outside and inside.

Materials I used: Scissors, bone folder, circle hole punch and black cardstock. I also used my paper cutter but you can see that in the video!

I took the 8 1/2 X 11 black cardstock and cut it down to 7X6 (see the picture. I'm EXTREMELY bad a math and dimensions.)

I then used a template I made for where I wanted the holes to be and punched them. I wanted to have them have a little bit of a difference as opposed to Jennibellie's because in hers, she sewed the cardstock together and to the covers but I do not currently have the tools to do so.

These are the extra bigger pieces that I put hole punches in as well and I am going to use them to put lace, ribbons, etc on. I think I might move them to the front of the album as well just so it will be smaller pieces in the front and bigger pieces for the washi tape in the back!

Here is what it looks like all finished. There are 10 of the bigger pages with the flaps and 10 pages of the smaller ones with no flaps! I'm extremely happy with it.

And here is the link to the video!!

Enjoy ladies.

I'm only on my third post and I feel like a bad blogger already.

I greatly greatly apologize for this but because of a family troubles at the moment, I am unable to post the videos today.

I will, however, be putting up a few pictures for you all to look at and share a recent story because I've got some time on my hands just sitting in a hospital room.

Okay. Story time! So I am constantly on YouTube looking for new Mixed Media artist to follow and learn new things from. Last week I found Jennibellie. This is the link to her YouTube Channel and by golly, I love her and her videos. Well on one of her videos from last month, she was calling out to artists to have a spot on her blog called "Tell All Tuesday." So I sent her an e-mail last week and said how nervous I was because I had never done an interview before about me and most certainly not my art (My art is basically seen by my boyfriend and my parents. More on them later). I got an e-mail back on Thursday with the list of questions, requirements and guidelines and such. I was super!!!! excited about it because I, Sarah, am going to have a spot on a blog of an artist that I now admire and has over 2,000 subscribers on YouTube and I honestly just cannot believe that I am going to do it.

Now. Back to my parents. They have always supported me no matter what I wanted to do. When I was younger I was a cheerleader, played softball, gymnastics. Middle school I did piano and band. In high school I did volleyball and band. My parents literally let me do whatever I wanted. I have always had a sketchbook and have always loved art. I even won a school wide contest in elementary school and that was all fine and dandy to them. But when I was making the decision to become an art minor, it felt like they did not care one bit about my art. I told my mom about the interview with Jennibellie ALL excited and told her how many followers and blog views she has a day and stuff and she goes "Yeah. Most of them are probably from you." ...Really? I get an INTERVIEW on a BLOG from someone who has THOUSANDS of followers and you cannot be just a litttttle bit more happy about it? It's really frustrating because I love my parents and I wish they would just accept that I love art as more then just a hobby.

But as a promised. Here are some of the canvas works that I have done.

This particular piece was a challenge to myself. I went through this week long phase of painting whatever surface I was working on black and then putting my painting on top of that. Haha. This is a piece of masonite  from Home Depot (They're super cheap and I had my grandpa cut them into pieces for me). I had to do about 3 coats of the blue to get it that color and the white is a charcoal pencil).

Another black painted canvas. Each flower took me about an hour to do. Took a while. But I love the end result.

This is a wood canvas board thing I got from my Painting 1 class two years ago, sanded it down, put blues, white and reds in the back and took a charcoal stick and drew my Buddha on there.

Well. I finally got some of it out there. I hope you all enjoyed this post. I'll try and be back tomorrow!

Technical Difficulties today.

Every piece of technology I own is apparently against me.
YouTube isn't working right on my end.
The SD card from my camera isn't working when I put it into my computer.
And I need to film one of my Journal Flips again because I don't like the way it came out.

I will definitely update tomorrow. I'll probably end up recording all 3 of my flips again anyway.

I'm going to take a trip to Walmart to buy some new colors of paint.

I hope that everyone has an amazing day creating, having fun or whatever you are free to do today. :)

Fourth of July!

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA. Yep. It's that time of year again. I saw fireworks last night in my hometown's Town Center park and it was pretty cool and scary at the same time. I am a chicken s**t when it comes to thunderstorms and lightning and there was a huge lightning storm coming through last night during the fireworks. At one point, there was a strike of lightning and fireworks at the same time. It was really cool to see.

But seeing as how this is my first blog post on blogspot, I figured I'll tell you guys a little bit about myself.

My name is Sarah. I am a 21 year old college student in Florida studying Psychology and American Sign Language. I have a boyfriend of 3 years, Kristopher. I used to be an Art minor but I realized that I truly do not like art teachers telling me what to draw, how to draw and basically controlling my passion. Because without further adieu, that is who I am. I am an artist. A free thinking, unprogrammed and raw artist. I am not a still life drawing, sketching art school artist. Art is basically what this blog will be about (unless I don't want to do it that way. Lol. We'll see down the road.) But for now, it will be for art.

I am a creator on a budget. Literally. No money. I'm that typical broke college kid. I find most of my stuff at garage sales, I never buy ANYTHING full price from craft stores and if I do, it's usually $1 or under. I'm not cheap or frugal by any means. I like expensive things...for small prices. :) I love watercolors (tube, pan, crayon, pencil. anything) more then most art supplies. Scrapbooking papers make me happy (especially when Michaels has 6/$1). Spray paints are my most recent love. They're fun to add effects to and I guess you could classify me as a 'Mixed Media Artist.' but I don't like labels.

I started art journaling when I was a freshmen in college. I had found 2 of Donna Downey's books at a garage sale and from then on, I have been a creator. My first art journal was a book from Dollar Tree. The pages ended up giving out on me after a few tries. I still have her though on my bookshelf to remind me where I started almost 3 years ago. I have always been an artist. From the time I can remember, I have always had a sketchbook (they're sitting in the garage in a box actually) and I am now distracted with the nurse in my father's hospital room.

I will be back tomorrow. I will show you all some of my work!

Think.Believe.Create. (that's my motto. Because if you think it you believe it and if you believe it you can create it.)
